We are celebrating Diwali, Festival of Lights this year during the Formula One (F1) weekend– Diwali GivingFest 2013!
This free family-friendly event gives an opportunity to the Austin residents and the F1 visitors to “Experience Austin’s Diversity!” – peek into Indian culture and traditions!
The event is planned for Saturday November 16th from 4pm to 8pm at the newly opened Asian American Resource Center located at 8401Cameron Road, Austin, TX 78754.
This colorful and festive program will be featuring some of our local Austin talent to include Monsoon Dance, Dhwani, Shreelata Madhuri’s group presenting Bharatnatyam, Vinitha Subramanian’s troupe with dynamic fusion of Odissi and Bharatanatyam, solo dance performances by Aparupa Chatterjee and Priya Patel, Diwali songs by Bharathi Kondur, and others. The cultural programs are coordinated by Monsoon Dance.
Mayor Pro Tem of Austin Sheryl Cole will be presenting the AusIndian Idol award. Showcasing the talents of our Austinites, this is a program sponsored by Monsoon Dance! Colors of India fashion show is organized by our sponsor Akruti Collections!
The event will provide a great background to meet and greet and wish each other Happy Diwali, and bask in the glow of the lights and Indian culture! We expect this to be a fun filled memorable program! We hope you can join us!
The sponsors of the Diwali GivingFest 2013 at the time of writing are: Akruti Collection, Gandhi Bazaar and Trinity Texas Realty – we thank them for funding the event. At the time of writing, we still need $1,000 in sponsorship.
The event will also give opportunity to open our hearts to those in need:
• New or lightly used blanket and winter clothes for refugees
• Gift cards in denomination of $30 (Wal-Mart/Target) for the foster children
