Dhanush’s Jagame Thandhiram Teaser Out, Makers Confirm Direct Netflix Release

Dhanush’s much-awaited Jagame Thandhiram will directly release on Netflix skipping theatrical release, announced the makers on Monday (February 22). Along with the announcement, the Jagame Thandhiram team released the film’s teaser giving everyone a glimpse of Dhanush’s character Suruli. The teaser has received an overwhelming response from Dhanush’s ardent fans.

For over a month, rumours suggested that producer Sashikanth of Y Not Studios received an offer for Jagame Thandhiram that he couldn’t refuse. However, they kept the Netflix deal a secret and didn’t confirm it to the media. On February 22, the makers unveiled the film’s teaser.

Y Not Studios released the teaser and wrote, “Suruli is here. Watch the #JagameThandhiramTeaser Now ! (sic).” The one-minute-long teaser introduces the character Suruli, which Dhanush plays in Jagame Thandhiram. He seems to be a notorious gangster from Madurai who gets stuck in London with international gangsters.

With the teaser, the Jagame Thandhiram makers confirmed that the film will release directly on Netflix. The official release date will be announced later.

Dhanush is not convinced with the OTT release of Jagame Thandhiram. He has made it clear with his cryptic posts on social media. Reportedly, he had a fallout with producer Sashikanth of Y NOT Studios over the decision of releasing Jagame Thandhiram on Netflix.

On February 2, Dhanush wrote, “I am hoping for the theatrical release of Jagame Thandiram like the theatre owners, exhibitors, distributors, cinema lovers and most of all my fans. Fingers crossed (sic).”

When Karnan’s release date was announced, Dhanush appreciated Kalaipuli S Thanu for releasing it in theatres even though he had other options. Dhanush, in a statement, wrote, “Karnan releases on April 2021 in theatres. A much needed encouraging news at the right time.

Thank you Thanu sir for thinking of the theatre owners, distributors, exhibitors and everybody who’s livelihood is dependant on films and theatres, even though you had other options. A big thank you on behalf of my fans as this means a lot to them.”

Jagame Thandhiram is tipped to be a gangster film set in London. The film stars Dhanush, Aishwarya Lekshmi, James Cosmo, Joju George, Kalaiyarasan Soundararaja, Deepak Paramesh and Vadivukkarasai in important roles. Jagame Thandhiram has music scored by Santhosh Narayanan. (Courtesy:
