Team Asha’s Strides Of Hope 2019

Asha-Austin, the Austin chapter of Asha for Education, is launching its Strides of Hope 2019 program, an endurance long-distance running program, with the kickoff of the upcoming session from Oct 2019 - Feb 2020 for beginner as well as experienced runners.

The session targets two Austin based half-marathon race events and one full-marathon event. Experienced coaches offer personalized coaching enabling both beginner and experienced runners to cross the finish line.

Team Asha also provides a mentorship program to work closely with the runners to help them keep up with their training schedule and guide them in their fund-raising efforts to meet their commitments, over the entire session.

100% of the funds raised go directly to support education-related projects for underprivileged children in India.

To date, hundreds of beginner and experienced runners have successfully trained with Team Asha Austin to achieve their fitness goals while raising funds enabling the chapter to disburse nearly $900,000 supporting over 30 project partners providing basic education to thousands of children annually. Our main objective is to help you cross the finish line as you take on this challenging personal quest towards completing your first half/ full-marathon.

Asha-Austin currently supports five projects and a fellowship, focusing on special needs education and/ or rural education, with an annual disbursement of around $65,000. One such project is the Rajasthan-based GSK Girirajpura School, built in 2014, and focusing on alternative education, for which Asha-Austin currently supports teacher salaries and program costs.

Mathru foundation is a home based in Bangalore for the physically challenged, for which Asha-Austin has been supporting the education, food and medical treatment costs of the children since 2015.

Khushboo Welfare Society is a holistic center for children with mental disabilities, in Gurgaon. Since 2016, Asha-Austin has been supporting the salaries of teachers imparting yoga, dance, music, and computer education, and therapists conducting occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech therapy.

Nethra Vidyalaya, a project since 2018, is a residential school in Visakhapatnam, providing education, boarding and lodging for visually impaired children, and Asha-Austin supports its teachers’ salaries.

The organization’s latest project, Rajatalab, is a new pilot project aiming to improve the quality of education in five rural government schools in Rajatalab, Uttar Pradesh, using computers in collaboration with Asha-Chennai.

Asha-Austin supports teachers’ salaries and covers the costs of additional learning material and laptops. Siddamma, an Asha-Fellow, supported since 2015, works on freeing bonded Irula laborers, education of their children, and empowering communities.

Asha-Austin started a Support a Child initiative for GSK and Khushboo in 2018. With an annual sponsorship, you can give the gift of education to an underprivileged child in India for as little as $20/month.
