With the rising success of pan-India box office hits like RRR and Pushpa: The Rise, filmmakers are gearing up with more films bringing Bollywood and Tollywood together under the same roof. The box office collection of RRR was a little over ₹275 crores and Pushpa: The Rise crossed the ₹300 crore mark across the country. On the other hand, Bollywood films like the Akshay Kumar-starrer Samrat Prithviraj made a meagre ₹65 crore approximately. Even though the Anil Kapoor and Varun Dhawan starrer Jugjugg Jeeyo did fairly well, it made ₹79 crore approx after its fourth week.
While several Tollywood actors including Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nayanthara, have been working on their debut Bollywood films, here are seven Bollywood actors set to star in South Indian films that are eyeing a 2023 release.
The upcoming film Merry Christmas stars Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, who predominantly works in the Tamil film industry, along with Malayalam and Telugu industries. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the film began shoot in December last year and Kaif recently shared pictures with Sethupathi from their rehearsals.
Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan
The upcoming yet-to-be-titled multilingual film stars Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone and Baahubali fame Prabhas in the leads. Directed by Nag Ashwin, who is known for the National award-winning Telugu biopic Mahanati, the film is being called Project K for the time being. The film is touted to be a science-fiction film, which will also star Amitabh Bachchan.
Earlier, in a statement, Ashwin said, “I’m very excited to see Deepika play this character. It is something no mainstream lead has done before and will be quite a surprise for everyone. The pairing of Deepika and Prabhas will be one of the main highlights of the film and the story between them, I believe will be something audiences will carry in their hearts for years to come.”
Salman Khan will be seen in the Telugu actor Chiranjeevi starrer Telugu action film Godfather. This will be marking Khan’s debut in the Telugu film industry. The film is a remake of the Mohanlal starrer Malayalam film Lucifer.
The actor is all set to star in the upcoming untitled project RC-15 starring Telugu actor Ram Charan and directed by S. Shankar. The film is reportedly based on several honourable public servants, who helped in shaping India.
Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon
The upcoming Hindi mythological film Adipurush stars Prabhas along with Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon, among others. Directed by Om Raut and produced by T-Series, the film is based on the epic, Ramayana, and is simultaneously shot in both Hindi and Telugu languages.
