CANNES (ANI) – Dhanush is set to step into the shoes of India’s 11th President and renowned scientist, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, in a new biopic officially announced at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
The ambitious project will be helmed by National Award-winning filmmaker Om Raut, best known for directing Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. The screenplay is penned by Saiwyn Quadras, whose previous writing credits include acclaimed biopics such as Neerja, Maidaan, and Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran.
“In an era starved of true statesmen, Kalam stood above politics and pettiness,” Raut said in a statement. “To bring his story to the screen is both an artistic challenge and a moral and cultural responsibility. His life is a lesson in education, innovation, and humility that resonates globally, particularly with the youth of the Global South.”
The film aims to go beyond a political biography, exploring Kalam as a visionary, a poet, a teacher, and a dreamer who fused science with spirituality. It promises to offer a profound insight into leadership and nation-building.
Producers Abhishek Agarwal and Bhushan Kumar, who are backing the project along with Krishan Kumar and Anil Sunkara, expressed their excitement and reverence.
“This is more than just a film—it’s a heartfelt tribute to a man whose life continues to inspire generations,” said Kumar. “Dr. Kalam’s journey showed us how dreams, dedication, and humility can transform a nation’s future.”
Additional details about the cast and production timeline remain under wraps, but the project has already generated significant buzz following its high-profile unveiling at Cannes.
