‘Mr Prime Minister, You Are Great,’ Writes Trump On Photo With Modi

NEW DELHI – US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 11, marking the start of his first official visit to India since being confirmed by the US Senate on October 7.

During the meeting, Gor presented Modi with a framed photograph of the Prime Minister with former US President Donald Trump, signed with the message, ‘Mr Prime Minister, you are great.’ The image was taken earlier this year at a White House press briefing following bilateral talks between the two leaders.

Modi welcomed Gor, saying he was confident the envoy’s tenure would ‘further strengthen the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.’

Gor described the meeting as ‘incredible,’ noting that discussions covered trade, defence, and critical minerals.

The 38-year-old diplomat, among the youngest US ambassadors to India, is a close Trump ally and previously served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office. His current visit, from October 9 to 14, also includes Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas. The pair are meeting Indian officials to discuss bilateral and Indo-Pacific cooperation.

Gor also met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Both sides reiterated the importance of advancing cooperation on global and regional priorities.

Gor’s appointment comes at a delicate juncture in India–US relations, which have been shaped by disputes over trade, visa costs, and technolog

y access. His arrival signals Washington’s intent to restore diplomatic momentum ahead of the US presidential election, where Trump remains a dominant political force.

The US Embassy said the visit underscored ‘continued commitment to a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region.’ Analysts view Gor’s outreach as an early test of how a potential second Trump administration might recalibrate ties with New Delhi. (IANS)
