MUMBAI – Filmmaker Karan Johar, director Neeraj Ghaywan and actor Vishal Jethwa have reacted with pride, gratitude and disappointment after their film ‘Homebound’ failed to make it to the final Oscars list.

Karan Johar shared a collage of visuals from the film, writing, “Proud!!!! Love you @neeraj.ghaywan for allowing us to bask in your light! #homebound.”
Responding to Karan, Neeraj Ghaywan expressed heartfelt gratitude, calling him an “absolute rock” and wrote, “Thank you, @karanjohar!
You have been an absolute rock. Couldn’t have come this far without you. Love you!”
Actor Vishal Jethwa also took to social media and admitted he was heartbroken but proud the film made it to the top 15.
“Yes, we couldn’t make it to the Oscar nominations, and of course, it broke the hope we carried with us.
But I believe failure is not when you fail; it’s when you don’t try.
And the only thing the whole ‘Homebound’ team did from the very first day was to just TRY,” he wrote.
He added, “I am proud of the fact that we could make it to the top 15 and am fully satisfied with what we were able to do, having our name associated with the prestigious name called the Oscars.
It’s more than what I ever imagined, desired or deserved.” Jethwa expressed gratitude to the team, saying, “Will always be grateful to Jogi sir, Neeraj sir, and Karan sir. My love and respect to Ishaan, Janhvi and my ‘Homebound’ family.”
‘Homebound’ had premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival last year, where it received critical appreciation.
Dharma Productions later joined the project as presenter and eventually producer.
The film released in India on September 26 on limited screens and received strong reviews.
It stars Vishal Jethwa and Ishaan Khatter in lead roles, with Janhvi Kapoor making a cameo appearance.
The last Indian film to receive a nomination in this category was Aamir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’ in 2001.
The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. (IANS)
