Rubio Says India Protests Are Domestic Matter
NEW DELHI-US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 21 described United Nations (UN) experts as an “oxymoron” and called the protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and opposition parties against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar an Indian domestic political matter.
Currently visiting India, Rubio made the remarks in Mumbai while responding to questions about UN experts’ comments on the CJP protests and the subsequent response by law enforcement agencies.
“Oh, UN experts, my favorite. The UN experts are the oxymoron,” Rubio said.

He declined to comment further on the protests, saying the issue was India’s domestic political matter.
“It is a domestic political matter. I am not going to comment on it. This is a democracy; they have elections here.
I am not going to opine on their domestic, political matters. We have protests every day in US,” Rubio said before leaving for Jamnagar.
On October 20, UN experts called on Indian authorities to respect, protect and fulfil the right to peaceful protest and ensure justice for human rights violations “reported during these and previous protests”. (IANS)
